Mantras are sound meditations. We all sing along with the radio, hopefully you do? Moving energy through the throat chakra is very important. Like the tin man in Wizard of Oz, you have to keep oiling the joints of the throat to be healthy and fully embodied. Singing moves the larynx and resonates the tissues, keeping energy moving through.
Add mantra singing to your meditation practice. Did you know your throat chakra is an energetic connection to your 2nd chakra. Creativity and clear speech go together. Finding one’s voice is an important part of being creative. Dr. Christopher Hills looks at “7 brains” and connects all with the chakras. Opening the brain energetically brings in light. Both sound and light are forms of vibration and bring healing energies to the body.
The beauty of mantras is they are often in Sanskrit. Years ago I took a Sanskrit speaking and writing class. It’s word and sound construction was designed to bring in sacred resonance. So there is much in the underbelly of speech. Enjoy this you tube. It has Ten Mantras to sing along with:
Here is another Mantra related to speech:
Kind, Necessary, and True
Many meditation teachers speak of right speech, right action. Vibrating the throat and be mindful of the intention of speech. Lar Short, founder of Grace Essence Fellowship, was initiated by Tenzin Rinpoche as a Lama. I was fortunate to study with him for a number of years while living in Taos, NM. We were asked to consider how we used our speech. Was it gossip? Was it kind, necessary, or true? Speaking truth at those right times brings energetic healing and clarity. Gossiping, using speech to punish another, or speaking when it isn’t necessary just clouds the vibrational field of connection.
Play with these ideas too, when you go to speak. Shy people may find that speaking up is actually necessary and valuable. Extroverts might find that a little silence is welcome 🙂
Bringing mindfulness to life makes it fun and opens the places for the tantric muse to enter.
