Yes, we all do it! Emotional triggers and the brain fires and we are in a stew of anger, fear, depression, you name it.
Well, sometimes people were “encoded” with reactivity even while being born, flooded with chemicals that interrupted their ability to regulate and stay connected relationally. This happens with birth pain medicines, or induction medicines. It can even happen in the womb due to substances. My mom took Diet Pills, (which is actually an amphetamine) and there was lots of nicotine.
So I know about having to re-regulate from the inside out. Here are a few tips.
- Never deny or blame the experience. It is just what happened.
- Take responsibility for your “brain states.” Don’t blame it on others.
- Get help; have someone give you the attuned reflective neurons to help you regulate as you “go back in time” through cellular memory and metabolize this experience out of your cells.
Sound fantastic? It is, in a really good way. It means you can use your natural intelligence to heal and integrate your earliest life stories so you are a more functional adult.
